My 5-1/2 year old son has a lot of trouble falling asleep, owing to a severe auditory processing disorder. We have tried everything we can think of and read every sleep book. We have a bedtime routine, no TV, a weighted blanket, tryptophan-rich foods before bed. Even Benadryl does not help! Needless to say, I bought this book with a high degree of skepticism. At the time, I had an appointment pending with a pediatric sleep specialist. My son is frequently unable to translate instructions he hears into action for his body; he processes more like a younger child. After the musical intro and reading out the floppy sleep game, my child was asleep within 20 minutes! Compare to 2 hours! This has gone on night after night after night. We don't even need to do it anymore. We recently went out of town--always a sleep disaster--and he did great! He even took a nap one day! (completely unheard of!) It seems to have helped him recognize when he is tired and to respond to that with relaxation instead of resistance. He welcomes sleeptime and last night even told me he was ready for bed and did not want to stay up and watch a movie for a special treat with his brother! I can't say enough good things about the book. I wish the CD had more relaxation/intros because all my kids, 7 yr old son and 2 yr old daughter included, really like moving and stretching and doing the yoga-style poses. We did not do the entire program, but it all looks pretty good. Now we include reading or telling a "dream" after our bedtime reading every night.

Guide Rating - 4 Stars
When your child can't sleep, it's hard on your child and hard on you. You don't want to refuse all help and support, but you also don't want to constantly respond to the pitter patter of little feet tripping down the hall. This four-week plan will give you something constructive to do about the problem. It's hard to know how to help a sleepless child. Change bedtimes? Change rooms? Lower the lights? Raise them a little? Turn on some music? Increase the quiet? Enforce isolation? Encourage snuggling? Is your child doing this to get attention, or because of a health problem, or due to severe emotional needs? What's going on, and can you please just go back to bed? The greatest virtue of The Floppy Sleep Game Book is that it gives parents a specific, detailed, day-to-day plan of what to do to make things better. Scripts for relaxation exercises and guided visualizations, along with a CD to gently move your child from needing your voice to listening to a recording, should help most children transition gently into sleep. They're also handy for dealing with anxiety in other situations, and teaching your child self-calming techniques. (Wouldn't hurt you to learn a few of them, too, most likely.)
Sure, it's a lot of work in the beginning. If you're so exhausted by your kids' bedtime that you can barely shove them under the covers before you begin to nod off yourself, you may find the recommended bedtime routine, exercising and storytelling to be more than you can muster. Tough it out, though, and you'll likely be rewarded by a good night's sleep uninterrupted by "Mooooooom, Daaaaaaad, I can't sleep." Nothing worth doing is ever easy.

The Floppy Sleep Game Book
Teel first made a name for herself with The Floppy Sleep Game audio CD, a collection of songs, instrumentals, kid –friendly yoga instructions, and creative visualization exercises to help children fall asleep. In this book companion, she expands her holistic approach to behavioral and potentially more serious sleeping problems. Her four week program begins by showing parents how to prepare children for bedtime and introducing specific guided relaxation meditations (which correspond with meditations on the accompanying CD). This routine is repeated over the coming weeks, with added tips and tricks.
